Ornaments are not only a representation of the traditional image of beauty of a culture, but also a reflection of the way of thinking of a people. They are part of every culture worldwide and are always unique. In the series “masks”, the classical genre of portrait sculpting is transformed from a 360° representation of a person into a mask-like, hollowed-out fragment. Engraved with ornaments, the pieces become social masks, one’s self-portrayal in society as opposed to one’s true inner self.

Ornamentik ist Ausdruck des traditionellen Schönheitsideals einer Kultur und spiegelt zugleich Denkweisen und Normen wider. Ornamente sind in allen Kulturen weltweit vorhanden und immer einzigartig. In der Serie „Maske“ wird das klassische Genre der Porträtplastik von einer 360°-Repräsentation umgewandelt in ein maskenhaftes, ausgehöhltes Fragment. Mithilfe eingestochener Ornamente werden die Werke zu sozialen Masken, eine Fassade der Selbstdarstellung im Gegensatz zum wahren Selbst.
