The work “Tear/palm” combines the living material of wood with the spike of a detonated anti-tank grenade. The firing and explosion of a grenade melted the metal, shaping it into this spike. The object – small enough to be concealed in the palm of a hand – pierced the armour of a tank at 10,000 m/s. What remains is cooled metal: concentrated hatred, the product of a deadly mechanism, and a relic of the human urge to destroy. But at the same time, it is also an object of beauty: a colourful, abstract sculpture reminiscent of a drop or a tear. The spike stands on a column, held aloft by a palm. Humanity’s seemingly unstoppable desire for destruction placed upon an open hand and the hope for reason and restraint.

Die Arbeit „Tear/palm“ verbindet das lebendige Material Holz mit dem Stachel einer detonierten Hohlladungsgranate. Durch das Abfeuern und die Explosion einer Panzergranate wurde Metall geschmolzen und zu diesem Stachel geformt. Das Objekt – klein genug, um es in der Hand zu verstecken – durchschlug so mit 10‘000m/s die Hülle eines Panzers. Was übrig bleibt, ist erkaltetes Metall: konzentrierter Hass, Produkt eines tödlichen Mechanismus und ein Relikt des menschlichen Zerstörungstriebes. Zugleich ist es auch ein Objekt von Schönheit: eine farbenfrohe, abstrakte Skulptur, die an einen Tropfen oder eine Träne erinnert. Der Stachel steht auf einer Säule, hochgehalten von einer Handfläche. Der scheinbar unaufhaltsame Zerstörungswunsch des Menschen gelegt auf eine offene Hand und der Hoffnung auf Vernunft und Zurückhaltung.
